STOCKTON, Calif. - A 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attacking his brother Sunday, and his girlfriend was arrested moments later when she tried to help him escape, say police.

According to Stockton police reports, Christopher White began punching his brother inside the Food 4 Less store on March Ln., then continued the assault outside. Several citizens tackled White to stop the attack and held him down until a security guard was able to place him in handcuffs.

When officers arrived at the scene around 2:34 p.m., White's girlfriend, 20-year-old Renee Robinson, became upset and "caused a problem with officers." Then, as officers attempted to drive away with White in captivity, Robinson opened the rear door to let White escape, police said.

Robinson and White both tried to flee the scene but were captured, said police.

White was arrested on charges of battery and being a parolee at large.

Robindson was arrested on charges of resisting arrest and lynching.
