SACRAMENTO, CA - A Solano County sheriff's deputy has been booked into the Sacramento County Jail following his arrest on insurance fraud charges.

Michael Oster, a 49-year-old Elk Grove resident, faces two felony counts of worker's compensation insurance fraud. Investigators from the California Department of Insurance and the Solano County Sheriff's Department arrested Oster Wednesday morning.

Oster was hired as a deputy sheriff in November 2001. In November 2007, he filed for disability compensation after claiming he was injured on the job.

According to the Solano County Sheriff's Department, Oster collected roughly $87,800 in disability benefits to which he wasn't entitled.

Solano County sheriff's Lt. Gary Faulkner said his office received a tip that Oster was working when his disability claim said he couldn't work.

Faulkner said he couldn't disclose the nature of the disability because of privacy laws.

Oster has been placed on administrative leave.
