Carson, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Galaxy signed striker Rob
Friend on Monday from German side 1860 Munich, pending receipt of his
International Transfer Certificate.
The 32-year-old has spent his entire professional career in Europe, spending
11 seasons with eight different clubs in Norway, the Netherlands and Germany.
"The addition of Rob Friend to our roster brings a different dimension to our
attack," said LA Galaxy general manager and head coach Bruce Arena. "Rob is a
veteran player with a scoring pedigree and we are excited to bolster our
roster by bringing him to LA."
Friend was originally drafted by the Chicago Fire in the fourth round of the
2003 MLS SuperDraft, but he elected to move to Europe to play for Moss in
Norway's Second Division.
During his time in Europe, Friend netted 79 goals in 256 appearances, while he
has represented Canada 32 times during his international career, tallying two
goals with two assists.
