Johnny Martinez, Derrick McConnell
MODESTO - A standoff in Modesto Wednesday morning resulted in the arrest of two men.
Modesto police became involved when they were dispatched at 5:34 a.m. to the 1900 block of Reseda Lane when a woman called to say her vehicle had been shot at while she drove by a house where her son had been attacked earlier, said Sgt. Ivan Valencia. Responding officers reported finding bullet holes in the woman's car.
At the house in question, one man, Nicholas Rubalcava, 24, of Modesto, was detained and arrested for public intoxication, Valencia said. Another man, though, ran into the house and refused to come out. Valencia said he was identified as Johnny Martinez, 25, of Modesto, and the alleged shooter.
SWAT officers arrived and surrounded the house. At 9 a.m., Martinez and another man, identified as Derrick McConnell, 23, of Modesto surrendered.
Officers searched the house and recovered several firearms, including one that was stolen, Valencia said.
Valencia said McConnell was identified as the suspect who attacked the woman's son. He was arrested for battery resulting in serious bodily injury.
Martinez was arrested and booked into custody on three counts of attempted homicide.
No one else was injured.
