A baby boy is in critical condition and four girls were injured after a 5-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 80 in the Rocklin area Tuesday morning.
The 9-month-old boy was in a Toyota Scion when the crash happened. Emergency personnel administered CPR at the scene of the crash and transported him to a nearby hospital. California Highway Patrol Officer David Martinez said four girls in a Ford explorer, ages 4 to 7, were taken to the hospital to get treatment for minor to moderate injuries.
Martinez said the preliminary investigation found the initial crash was between the Scion and the Explorer, then three other vehicles crashed with the first two between Rocklin Road and Highway 65.
The three right lanes of westbound I-80 were closed as a result of the crash for about an hour so crews could care for patients, investigate the crash and remove the vehicles.
