Indie computer game Forced by BetaDwarf is a title in which players face countless challenges in the form of puzzles, traps, enemy swarms, and interesting gameplay mechanics.

Forced takes place in a world where warriors are chosen to prove their worth to those who fancy themselves deities.  These would-be heroes are put through a series of trials along with a floating orb of light, named Balfus, who acts as a player's companion character.  As an action-RPG, however, whatever story there is plays second (maybe even fifth) fiddle to gameplay.

Players are given the choice between four classes of character dictated by what equipment is donned.  The choice isn't binding, however, as players can change their selection at points throughout the game.  Each has its own strengths and weaknesses and, once the game progresses, there is a fair amount of customization that can be had.

Actual combat - a main feature of this game - is unfortunately sluggish.  Those expecting the quick, crisp handling of Diablo III or Path of Exile will be left disappointed.  This disappointment extends to Balfus as well, though the orb is the highlight when it comes to puzzle solving.  He (BetaDwarf gave it a male voice) is quite handy and versatile depending on the situation, but is equally cumbersome and controlling the orb is difficult to master.

Best played as a co-op multiplayer title, as many as four players can give it a go at a time.  The game is, thankfully, just as playable going solo as it is as a team.  And that's a good thing because its online matchmaking system is rather poor.  In fact, players should expect to go into a play session alone and be pleasantly surprised when/if any fellow players are found.

Visually, Forced is a good looking indie title.  Once again comparing it with Diablo III and Path of Exile, it lacks the visual depth and richness found in those titles.  Still, it has a very clean visual presentation.  What small bit of voice work can be found, however, could have been better both in sound quality and acting.

Even with the difficulties with co-op matchmaking and some gameplay mechanics that really do feel "forced", Forced is a game that's still worth checking out.  While it probably will only find a nich√© following and not everybody will like it, there is really only one way to find out if it's a game for you.
