GRASS VALLEY, CA - Parents and students are on edge in Nevada County after a middle school girl was almost abducted minutes after getting off the school bus.
It happened Friday afternoon near the intersection of Combie and Rodeo Flat roads in Grass Valley.
The girl is a student at Magnolia Intermediate School in the Pleasant Ridge Union School District.
Her mother said minutes after getting off the bus on Rodeo Flat Drive, a man approached her daughter.
That man, in a red Chevy pickup, pulled alongside her and tried to coax her into his truck.
"The person in a truck, a male gentleman, offered the student a ride home. She declined. He insisted that she get in the truck and she immediately went home at that point," said district Supt. Rusty Clark.
The scariest part is that girl said the man was forceful: yelling at her, telling her she "had to get in the truck right now".
The truck is an older model red Chevy pickup.
The girl said the driver was white, in his 40s, with dark hair and a goatee.
Fortunately for her, she did everything right.
"She made it home safely," said Clark. "We never know who our children come in contact with on a daily basis. But this parent did a very good job teaching their child to head home and to go indoors."
