SACRAMENTO, CA - If you're one of those people who always want the newest and hottest cell phone, you know how expensive it can be to buy it outright without an upgrade.

A Roseville man has created a new company that he believes is a game changer; the first website to buy and sell your phone upgrades.

Jonathan Martis said the idea came to him when he wanted to get a new phone, but he didn't qualify for the upgrade. He didn't want to shell out an arm and a leg for a brand new phone.

"I just was thinking is there any way I could pay somebody to use their upgrade?" Martis explained.

Martis put out an ad on Craigslist. No one responded.

That's when Martis, a program analyst at the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, decided to start "Upgradeswap.com" on the side. It's the first website where you can buy or sell your phone upgrades.

"Many people don't know they qualify for an upgrade," Martis said. "If you do and you're fine with your phone, you can make a lot of money."

If sellers qualify for an upgrade, they can list it on the site and make up to $250. Buyers can save up to $200 on a brand new phone.

Martis said the site is safe and goes through multiple layers of security. He verifies each upgrade that is listed.

Danielle Stevenson thinks Martis is on to something.

"For me, every time a new iPhone comes out, of course, I want a new one," Stevenson said. "So instead of having to wait a whole extra year or spending a ton more money, it's more convenient."

The site just launched this summer. Because it's so new, there aren't any listings.

"The way I look at it, we're the new eBay in a way," Martis explained. "eBay when it first started didn't have any listings."

Now, eBay is a multi-billion dollar company.

Martis believes UpgradeSwap.com is the next big thing.
