WOODLAND, CA - A 2-year-old little boy was sexually and physically abused by a man who was supposed to be taking of him. Now that man, 46-year-old John "Tim" Ganthner, is going to prison for life.
Yolo County Superior Court Judge Stephen Mock imposed the sentence without the possibility of parole Friday after a jury in March convicted Ganthner of multiple counts of sexual penetration of a child under age 10, infliction of great bodily injury on a child under age 5, and physical abuse of a child.
The county D.A.'s office said Ganthner had been left alone with the boy on Aug. 23, 2011 by a relative of the child who entrusted Ganthner with his care. When the relative came back after volunteering at a local charity, she saw injuries to the child's genital area and chest and sought help.
The doctor who examined the child found he had been sexually abused and beaten on at least three areas of his body, according to court documents.
Investigators said Ganthner at first denied hurting the boy. Ganthner was arrested the following day.
