CARMICHAEL, CA - A father was killed and his 16-year-old son seriously injured when an SUV pulled into the path of their motorcycle Tuesday night.
The 52-year-old father, who was from Carmichael, was killed at the scene, said California Highway Patrol Officer Lizz Dutton. The son was transported to Mercy San Juan Hospital with major injuries. Their names were not released.
The collision took place at approximately 7:38 p.m. on the west side of Fair Oaks Boulevard just south of Marconi Avenue, Dutton said. Elmira Atarbekyan, 51, of Sacramento, was coming out of a driveway in her green Toyota Sienna into the southbound lanes of Fair Oaks Boulevard, intending to turn left to go northbound, when the motorcycle rider on a green Harley Davidson hit the left front of the SUV. The impact threw the man and his son into the road.
Dutton said both victims were wearing helmets.
It appeared neither alcohol nor drugs contributed to the crash but the investigation continues, Dutton said.
