EL DORADO COUNTY, CA - The treasurer of a local Lions foundation with the mission of giving 100 percent of the money it raises to youth programs is being accused of stealing more than $275,000 from the charity.
Kent Maloney, who served as treasurer for the Lions Clubs Educational Fund Inc., which is associated with Lions Club International, allegedly used a secret account to hide the theft, according to the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office. Investigators say the funds were allegedly pilfered over seven years.
According to the foundation's website, no funds it takes in go toward administrative expenses.
Maloney was arrested on suspicion of embezzlement and booked into El Dorado County Jail. Bail was set at $250,000.
