SAN ANDREAS, Calif. - A homeowner made a startling discovery in his San Andreas home after hearing an odd sound come from the kitchen Tuesday night.
According to Sergeant Chris Hewitt of the Calaveras County Sheriff's Dept., deputies were called to the home on the 200 block of Pope St. around 7 p.m. in response to a reported burglary. Upon arrival at the home, deputies found the homeowner holding another man down on the driveway.
During an ensuing investigation, deputies learned the homeowner heard a noise in his kitchen and went to investigate. When he entered the room, he found Robert Allan London, 49, of San Andreas, rummaging through the kitchen cabinets wearing nothing but a trench coat and socks, said Hewitt.
The homeowner yelled for his neighbor to call 911 and chased London from the home to the driveway where he tackled and held him until police arrived, Hewitt said.
Upon apprehending London, police located several items on him belonging to the homeowner, Hewitt said.
According to Hewitt, London then admitted to going into the house and taking items including small tools, keys, coins and batteries after stripping down to use the homeowner's sauna. London also admitted to using the sauna in the past, having thought the home was vacant.
London was booked into the Calaveras County jail on felony charges of burglary, indecent exposure inside an occupied dwelling, and possession of stolen property, all felonies.
