Stockton police appeal for help solving gold chain robberies

STOCKTON, CA - A reward of up to $10,000 is available for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for robbing victims of gold or silver chains in Stockton.

The Stockton Police Department reports it has received 205 reports since March regarding thefts of gold chains. Typically, the robber gets close enough to snatch the chain off of the victim's neck.

In some incidents, victims reported the robbers were violent and aggressive. They have displayed guns and knives. One man was murdered for his gold chain in Victory Park last month.

Victims have been female and male, and ranging in age from 5 to 78.

Robbery detectives urged:

• Always be aware of your surroundings & stay alert!

• Avoid showing jewelry when outdoors - it may not be of significant value to, but the robbers won't know the value until they remove it from you neck

• Avoid using cell phones or other electronic devices that will distract you

• Travel with someone when possible

• Please share this information with your neighbors
