SHINGLE SPRINGS, CA - A man was arrested after a 5.5-hour standoff with deputies early Saturday morning.
El Dorado County sheriff's deputies responded to multiple calls of a disturbance in an apartment on Service Court around 2:30 a.m., Lt. Tim Becker said.
Deputies were told Joshua J. Willis, 28, beat his girlfriend. The woman was safely taken from the apartment to Marshal Hospital for treatment for her injuries. Becker said the woman told deputies that Willis barricaded himself inside of the apartment and had a .45-caliber handgun and a .22-caliber rifle with him.
SWAT and the sheriff's Crisis Negotiation Team were called to the scene, Becker said. Throughout the standoff, Willis didn't to respond to commands by deputies.
Sometime later, deputies heard a gunshot from inside of the apartment. They sent in a robot and found Willis barricaded in the bathroom of the apartment, Becker said.
Willis turned himself over to deputies around 8 a.m. He was booked into El Dorado County Jail for battery.
