Patrick Ware, Donte Brooks
MODESTO - A traffic stop early Thursday morning led to the arrest of two suspects in a violent home invasion, say Modesto police. At least two robbers remain on the loose.
The home invasion was on the 600 block of W. Granger Avenue. Police Lt. Rick Armendariz said the victims, a man and a woman, were asleep in bed when there was loud banging on the front door. The man got up to investigate and told officers at least four men, armed with handguns, were busting through the front door. The resident ran back to the bedroom and went out a window to run to a neighbor's to call 911.
The woman told police she grabbed a sword to defend herself. However, the intruders overpowered her, with one of them smacking her in the face with a gun while the others went through the house, taking money, jewelry and other items before fleeing, Armendariz said.
Police arrived at the scene about 1 a.m.
Approximately 45 minutes later, Armendariz said a patrol officer in the downtown area stopped an Oldsmobile the officer observed in violation of of several traffic infractions. When the officer approached the driver and passenger, the officer noted they matched the descriptions provided of two of the home invasion robbers.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the driver, Patrick Ware, 25, of Stockton, and the passenger, Donte Brooks, 21, of Oakdale, for their alleged involvement in the home invasion robbery. Ware also faces parole violations, Armendariz said. Both men were booked into Stanislaus County Jail.
Police continue to look for the others involved in the home invasion. Any related information can be called into Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636.
