WOODLAND, CA - Woodland police officers, responding to a call of shots fired on the 600 block of Cottonwood Street Wednesday night, found an 18-year-old man laying shot in the street.

According to Sgt. Steve Guthrie of the Woodland Police Department, the man was found near the south side of Don's Diner with a "severe" wound to his abdomen.

The gunshot victim was taken to an area trauma center where his status was listed as "unknown", according to Guthrie.

The diner was closed at the time of the shooting, but a few employees remained inside, said Guthrie. Several rounds pierced the restaurant's window's, but nobody inside was struck.

Witnesses reported seeing a white, mid 90s to early 2000s Ford Mustang in the area. Guthrie said it was unknown whether the Mustang was involved, but it is considered a vehicle of interest.

The case was turned over to the Yolo County Gang Task Force as well as the Woodland Police Department's investigations Division as there may be possible gang associations with this shooting, said Guthrie.

Anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to call the Yolo County Gang Task Force Sergeant Heath Parson at 530-661-7845.
