The Northwestern University football team is going red, white and blue in honor of wounded veterans.
The team will wear new flag-themed uniforms for its Nov. 16 game against Michigan. The university teamed up with Under Armour and the Wounded Warrior Project for the patriotic gear.
However, some people said the uniform design, which includes the blue and red color dripping into the white, looks like it is spattered in blood.
In a statement published on ESPN, Northwestern said the "distressed pattern" was inspired by the appearance of a "flag that has flown proudly over a long period of time."
After the game, the uniforms will be auctioned off. All of the proceeds will go to Wounded Warrior Project.
