SACRAMENTO, CA - Fremont Park, in midtown Sacramento, became an art gallery Saturday as artist chalked up sidewalk canvasses.
The 22nd Chalk It Up Festival features 200 pieces from local artists. The event supports children's art education and art activities in the Sacramento area.
Individual artists purchased their own sidewalk squares as their own canvasses and the drawings and strategies are all unique.
"I start with the eyes because they always give somebody, the passersby, something to look at," Chalk Artist Andrea Johnston said. "It catches their attention. It caught your attention."
The Chalk It Up festival runs through Labor Day weekend from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day with live music and outdoor activities.
The art works will remain until the weather eventually takes them away.
