FAIRFIELD, CA (AP) -- Air Force investigators and police are looking into the death of an active duty airman from Travis Air Force Base that officials described as "unexpected."
In a news release, Travis said Senior Airman Matthew Johnston, 21, a 60th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter was found dead just past midnight Tuesday in Vacaville, where Air Force Staff Sgt. Sean Emery said many of the base's airmen live.
Officials said the Air Force Office of Special Investigations is working with the Vacaville Police Department to determine how Johnston died. No other details about the circumstances of his death were given.
Johnston joined the Air Force in 2006
The base about 50 miles northeast of San Francisco is home to 5,800 active duty personnel.
