PATTERSON, CA - Stanislaus County sheriff's detectives Friday released the names of a 3-year-old girl and her mother who is accused of drowning the child.
Deputies were called to a Patterson home about 6 p.m. Thursday where they found the victim, Alexandrea Bigham, unconscious after being in a bathtub, according to Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department Deputy Andrew Winter.
The girl was rushed by helicopter to Doctor's Medical Center in Modesto. She died about 9:50 p.m. Thursday, according to Winter.
The mother, Jennifer Bigham, 23, was found with self-inflicted knife wounds, said deputies. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment of what deputies said were non-life-threatening injuries. Detectives arrested Bigham for murder Friday morning.
Bigham and her daughter were staying with relatives in Patterson, according to investigators. They lived in Castro Valley.
Detectives were not releasing information about a motive for the drowning.
