Representatives for Cal Expo, the Maloof family and the NBA issued statements Thursday about a proposed three-way land swap that could lead to a new arena for the Sacramento Kings.

CAL EXPO

"Cal Expo remains committed to identifying a redevelopment solution for its fairgrounds and event facility. We are intrigued by the proposals expected to be presented this evening and are receptive to exploring any and all ideas that would achieve that mission of redevelopment."

"The Cal Expo Board of Directors and its Real Estate Committee will thoroughly review the new proposals and provide the proposers, the NBA and the State of California with our feedback, after we have had sufficient time to study the plans in detail, and determine if they are in the best interest of Cal Expo and the California State Fair."

MALOOFS

"We are very excited about the possibility of a new sports and entertainment complex for Sacramento. We have been briefed by the NBA on the details of this proposal and are appreciative and supportive of the NBA's efforts and the leadership of Mayor Kevin Johnson who has driven this process forward. We're committed to help any way we can."

NBA

"On November 19th, Mayor Kevin Johnson reinvigorated the NBA's effort to build a privately funded arena when he launched the Sacramento First Task Force to evaluate options for a new art, entertainment and sports complex in Sacramento. Mayor Johnson's leadership has been a catalyst for renewed energy and enthusiasm around the City's longstanding intent to build a privately financed, first class sports and entertainment complex. Seven new proposals were submitted to the Task Force by its December 24th deadline, sending a message of optimism, confidence, and hope for this New Year."

"One of the proposals, submitted by the Kamilos Companies and Macquarie Capital (USA) Inc., is very promising in its substantive detail, impressive participants, and financial sophistication. Kamilos and Macquarie Capital have assembled an extraordinary team of respected experts in their fields, including premier Sacramento developer David S. Taylor, Pacific Coast Capital Partners, Turner Construction, VisionMaker Worldwide, and AECOM, among others."

"We are committed to working with the Kamilos team to test the assumptions underlying this plan and will be prepared by the Mayor's February Task Force meeting to discuss the financial model in more detail. The NBA supports the Kamilos plan because we believe it represents a legitimate opportunity for success, although such commitment does not preclude our partnering with any conceptually different plan that may emerge as the strongest proposal."

"We look forward to working side-by-side with Mayor Johnson, the Governor, the City Council, the Board of Supervisors, our friends at Cal Expo, and other elected and community leaders as we try to make this promising proposal a reality."
