NAPA, CA - An employee at Napa State Hospital was killed by a psychiatric patient Saturday evening in Napa, according to authorities.
Napa State Hospital spokeswoman Deborah Moore said Donna Gross, 54, was found dead on the hospital grounds around 6:10 p.m. She was a psychiatric technician at the hospital.
Psychiatric patient, 37-year-old Jess Willard Massey, is suspected of killing her, said Moore. He was arrested and is being held on murder and robbery charges.
Napa County Sheriff Capt. Tracey Stuart said Gross went to lunch and did not return at her scheduled time.
"This is a tragic incident and we are deeply saddened by the loss of a long-time employee," Moore said on behalf of the hospital.
Stuart said Massey has an extensive criminal history and has been in the hospital since 1993 after he was declared insane.
Gross had been with the hospital for 14 years.
