SACRAMENTO, CA (AP) - A new poll finds that U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein has a commanding lead over her Republican challenger, who remains virtually unknown to California voters.

The Field Poll released Saturday shows Feinstein leading autism advocate Elizabeth Emken 57 percent to 31 percent among likely voters.

Feinstein, who is running for her fourth full term, is more popular with voters of all ages, ethnicities and levels of educational attainment.

Emken is a former IBM manager who has never held elective office and has struggled to gain name recognition. The poll found 7 in 10 likely voters have no opinion of her.

Field conducted the survey Sept. 6-18 with UC Berkeley's Institute of Governmental Studies. It has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points for the 902 likely voters.
