WASHINGTON (AP) - A government watchdog is looking into Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson's use of alias email accounts to conduct official business.

The EPA inspector general is launching an audit to find out whether EPA officials followed federal laws and regulations when using secondary email accounts the public didn't know about.

House Republicans requested the audit following reports that Jackson used a secondary account under the name "Richard Windsor" to conduct EPA business. Republicans say they're concerned the account could be used to circumvent transparency and public records requirements.

The EPA says it welcomes the audit and has nothing to hide. The agency says it's been standard practice for more than a decade for administrators to have a second account - and that both accounts are subject to public records requests.
