MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexico's largest crime-victim's movement says it will join with U.S. groups to launch a "peace caravan" across the United States this summer.

The groups say the effort is meant to draw attention to what the alliance calls misguided anti-drug policies that have cost tens of thousands of lives in Mexico over the last 5 1/2 years.

The Mexican group headed by poet Javier Sicilia says activists will travel from San Diego, California, to Washington D.C.

Also participating in the planned effort are groups such as the Drug policy Alliance and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

The groups said Monday the caravan is expected to start Aug. 12 and reach Washington on Sept. 10.

The alliance says it wants more humane, less violent security strategies.
