SACRAMENTO, CA - Regional Transit passengers will have to worry about what they wear if a proposed dress code, aimed at reducing crime on the public transit system, passes, according to one RT board member.
Lauren Hammond, who also sits on the Sacramento City Council, wants board members to follow the lead of Arden Fair Mall. In 2009, the Sacramento mall banned customers from wearing hooded sweatshirts or "hoodies."
Hammond says getting rid of hoodies would allow light rail cameras a better view of anyone causing problems.
"It can be intimidating sometimes when people are wearing hoodies," Hammond said. "We need to create a friendlier atmosphere for everyone riding."
The RT board is investigating the idea and could discuss the policy further later this month.
