SLIDESHOW: Obama sign stirs controversy
ACAMPO, CA - A highly visible sign bashing President Obama that turned heads north of Lodi was taken down late Wednesday evening.
The sign sat on the west side of Jahant Road at the southbound Highway 99 onramp and Collier Road in Acampo just outside of Stockton in San Joaquin County.
The sign read "Obama = Niggardly" and claimed the president was hurting small businesses. It ended with the phrase "Buck Ofama." The word "niggardly" is defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary as someone who is grudgingly mean about spending or granting.
A viewer alerted News10 to the sign, concerned over the words used to describe the 44th president.
The sign was placed between a collection of other signs touting "Clean restrooms," "Muffins and Scones" and "Coffee Latte" available at a local coffee shop that closed down Wednesday.
The owner of "K and D Brew Thru" Claudia Silva said she did not realize the sign was there until News10 brought it to her attention. She said she believes it went up late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.
According to witnesses, two unidentified men came and quickly dismantled the sign around 8 p.m.
San Joaquin County Code Enforcement said they had not received any complaints regarding the sign. If they did receive a complaint, they would investigate the situation.
