OAKLAND, CA (AP) - Oakland police are looking for a 5-year-old boy with cerebral palsy who went missing in the city's Rockridge district.
Hassani Campbell was last seen Monday afternoon sitting in the car parked outside a shoe store where his aunt works. She has custody of the boy.
The man watching Hassani at the time told authorities that he left the car to unlock the doors to the store to give the boy, who wears braces on his legs, easier access to get inside. He said when he returned to the car, the child was gone.
Police initially described the man as Hassani's father but later said he was a "caretaker."
Hassani is African-American, stands 3-feet-tall and weighs 30 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and gray pants.
Oakland police and the FBI have also searched the caretaker's residence.
Anyone with information about the boy's whereabouts is asked to call the Oakland Police Youth Services Division.
