Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta
STOCKTON, CA (AP) -- A group of water agencies plans to sue the city of Stockton and San Joaquin County, claiming toxic storm water from their sewer systems is threatening the fragile ecosystem in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
The Coalition for a Sustainable Delta sent a letter Tuesday informing both governments that it intends to sue. The group alleges that untreated storm runoff containing heavy metals and even the banned pesticide, DDT, threatens the estuary that provides drinking water to 25 million Californians.
Stockton's city attorney declined to comment, saying he has not yet received the letter. The San Joaquin County Counsel's office also declined comment for the same reason.
