Former Rep. Doug Ose announced his candidacy Friday to replace Rep. John Doolittle in California's conservative 4th Congressional District.
Ose made the announcement with his wife, Linda, by his side on the steps of the historic courthouse in downtown Auburn Friday morning.
Ose will face fierce competition in the Republican primary from former state Sen. Rico Oller who's already in the race.
Oller released the following statement, in part, regarding Oce's candidacy:
"I welcome his entry into this race. It means that voters will have a clear cut choice between myself, a proven conservative and businessman, and Doug Ose, a proven moderate and Washington, D.C insider. It will be a contest for the heart and soul of the Republican Party in this Congressional District and I’m very confident my conservative message will prevail ..."
Doolittle, a Republican who's under investigation in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal, announced in January that he will retire at the end of the year rather than seek a 10th term in the House.
