We asked, and you answered.

Calls to the News10 Water Busters Tipline sent us around Sacramento to follow up on people who might be wasting water.

As the tips started coming into the tipline, we got reports of unoccupied homes or homes for sale with automated sprinklers that were set to go off throughout the day.

At a home for sale on 71 st Street, the lawn was saturated and excess water spilled out into the street. No one answered the door and the realtor did not return our call; neighbors said they haven't seen the owner in awhile. A News10 viewer told us about the home and the wasted water.

In Sacramento, the water conservation ordinance doesn't allow outdoor watering between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. and only once a week. We reminded Sam Lee of the ordinance when we found him watering his lawn just before 5pm. Lee said he had heard about the governor's drought declaration and soon shut down his sprinklers.

Gov. Jerry Brown asked people across the state to cut back 20 percent of their water use when he declared a drought emergency on Friday.

If you see water waste, call News10's Water Busters Tipline at 916-321-3232, then select option 3. Remember, if we show up at your home, don't worry, we can't fine you, we're just here to help.

In Sacramento, you can also call the city's 311 line.
