A former medical office caught fire in Stockton Friday.
Stockton Fire Department crews fought flames and black smoke pouring from the boarded-up building at 1520 El Dorado Street, former doctor's office, around 12:30 p.m.
Fire officials said two juveniles were seen at the building at the time of the fire.
"It's unfortunate for the community of Stockton that people use these buildings for shelter and illicit activities," Battalion Chief Lane Healy said.
Neighbors said the building was commonly used by transients and others for drug use.
"The owners have left this building vacant for 10 years now," Neighbor Lori Costarios said. "They choose to do nothing about it and the city allows it. Someone could get hurt; a firefighter could have died in the fire. It's not good for anyone,"
About an hour after arriving, fire crews were able to determine the building was empty, and there were no injuries.
The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known.
