A 19-year-old man was shot by Modesto police as he ran from officers Saturday afternoon.
The man's wound is non-life threatening. No other information about the suspect was released. Police Lt. Warren Dunlap said no officers were injured in the shooting.
The shooting happened around 2:20 p.m. on the 1700 block of Vernon Avenue, in west Modesto. Officers approached to people who were loitering behind a business near the intersection of Vernon Avenue and Paradise Road, Modesto police spokesperson Heather Graves said.
After talking to the officers, the 19 year old ran from the police. Dunlap said the suspect was armed and running from police when one officer fired at him. It's unclear what led the officer to shoot at the suspect.
Modesto police said the suspect's gun was found at the scene of the shooting.
The officer was placed on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated by the Modesto Police Department, Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department and Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office.
