OLIVEHURST - A 17-year-old girl was killed just after midnight Wednesday morning in what the California Highway Patrol suspects is a crash involving the use of alcohol.

The Marysville teen, whose name has not been released, was a passenger in a 1998 Nissan Frontier pickup truck driven by 19-year-old Richard D. Hensley II of Citrus Heights, said CHP Officer Jodie Beck. It was approximately 12:07 a.m. when the pickup, believed to be traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Feather River Boulevard north of Murphy Road, veered to the left and traveled off of the east side of the road. The truck overturned and continued into a drainage ditch where it righted back on all wheels, Beck said

The passenger and driver were both ejected. Beck said the girl died at the scene. Hensley suffered major injuries and was transported to Rideout Hospital in Marysville.

The CHP investigation determined neither was using a seat belt.

Beck said Hensley was arrested but did not specify what charges he may face.
