Tomato spill in Dixon

DIXON, Calif. - A truck driver lost a hefty load Tuesday morning when his trailer tipped, spilling 26,000 pounds of tomatoes across a Dixon roadway.

The driver told Dixon police he was making a delivery to the Campbell's plant when one of two vehicles traveling towards him on Pedrick Rd. at a high rate of speed entered his lane. The truck driver swerved to avoid the car and his trailer overturned.

According to Dixon police, the driver continued on toward the plant, dragging his tipped trailer for a while before eventually stopping.

Both directions of Pedrick Rd. were shut down to clean up the tomatoes but reopened by 6:15 a.m., said police.

The driver was not injured in the accident.

No information was provided on the other cars or drivers.
