Sheriff: Man sought for shooting at wife and co-worker, killing co-worker

TURLOCK, CA - A man accused of shooting at his wife and another man as they left the watermelon field where they had been working Sunday afternoon is now wanted for murder.

Stanislaus County sheriff's detectives are looking for Eduardo Favian Maldonado, 42. Maldonado is alleged to have driven his dark red Mercury at the victims at a high rate of speed near Simmons and Washington roads about 3 p.m. Sunday and then opened fire. A man in the group with Maldonado's wife and several others was shot. He was transported by air ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Modesto but he died Monday morning. His name has not ben released.

Neither Maldonado's wife nor the others were hit.

Maldonado did not stop. Detectives do not yet know why Maldonado allegedly acted as he did. They say he is wanted for murder, attempted murder and attempted corporal injury on a spouse.

Maldonado drives a dark red or maroon 1999 Mercury Mystique sedan, California license plate number 5FLX194. Investigators think Maldonado may be trying to get to Mexico.
