Far Hills, NJ (Sports Network) - The United States Golf Association announced
on Monday that Rolling Green Golf Club will host the 2016 U.S. Women's Amateur
Rolling Green, which will be celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2016,
previously hosted the 1976 U.S. Women's Open. JoAnne Carner beat 1975 winner
Sandra Palmer in a playoff at that championship.
"The USGA is very happy to bring another national championship to Rolling
Green," said Thomas J. O'Toole Jr., USGA vice president and Championship
Committee chairman. "The course has already proven to be a formidable test,
and it will undoubtedly present yet another stern challenge when it hosts the
world's finest female amateur players."
This will be the second USGA Championship for Rolling Green. The course has
hosted many Pennsylvania Opens and numerous Golf Association of Philadelphia
championships. One of the more notable Pennsylvania Opens was in 1990 when
five-time USGA champion Jay Sigel beat future U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk by
a single stroke.
