Sheriffs department detonates potential acid bomb

MODESTO - An acid bomb is to blame for a street closure in West Modesto on Sunday afternoon.

Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputies were called to the 600 block of Colorado Ave. at about 1:30 on a report of a possible explosive device.

Deputies arrived on scene and immediately shut down area as they conducted their investigation.

The bomb team was called to the scene to assess the device, a plastic container with an unknown substance inside, that was found near a vacant home.

Members of the bomb team determined that the container was potentially an acid bomb.

The device was detonated and rendered safe at the scene.

The sheriffs department does not know why the device was left at this location and no suspects have been identified.
