Shawn Sample, Kristie Sibley
MODESTO, CA - This is a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time for a couple of suspects.
A man and a woman were dining at local restaurant Uno's Chicago Grill on Tuesday when they allegedly tried to leave without paying their bill by trying to use a credit card that didn't belong to them, said Modesto police Sgt. Steven Stanfield.
It so happened officers with the police department were also customers at the restaurant at the time.
The officers detained Shawn Sample, 41, of Escalon, and Kristie Sibley, 29, of Oakdale.
Stanfield said officers searched Sample's vehicle and recovered a stolen, loaded handgun; drug paraphernalia and items stolen from a local department store.
A background check of Sibley showed she was wanted by Oakdale police for burglary, possession of a controlled substance and theft, Stanfield said
The pair were booked into Stanislaus County Jail on conspiracy and burglary charges. Sample also faces being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm and Sibley was also being held on the outstanding Oakdale warrants.
