NEVADA COUNTY, CA - A suspect recovers in the hospital after being shot by a Sierra County sheriff's deputy early Sunday morning.
Nevada County sheriff's deputies responded to the Brass Rail saloon in North San Juan after getting calls of an intoxicated man threatening the bartender and customers with a semi-automatic handgun, Nevada County Sheriff's Department Capt. Shannan Moon said.
Before leaving the saloon, the suspect got into a fight with another man in the parking lot and then headed northbound on Highway 49.
Moon said the suspect vehicle was spotted by a Sierra County sheriff's deputy who attempted to pull him over. Instead, the suspect sped away from the deputy and continued on Highway 49.
The suspect stopped several miles north of Downieville and threatened the deputy with the gun; the deputy then shot the suspect and injured him.
Moon said the suspect was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The shooting is being investigated by Nevada County Sheriff's Department and the Nevada County District Attorney's Office.
