SACRAMENTO, CA - An 18-year-old man and his girlfriend are accused of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly holding up a woman and her 4-year-old child at gunpoint in broad daylight and then shooting the mother in the back.

Sacramento County sheriff's spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos said the incident took place on June 5 just before 9 a.m. on the 7100 block of Lincolnshire Drive. Deputies were told a silver SUV pulled up to the victims, a man got out and robbed the 24-year-old mother before shooting her. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators learned the victim's credit card was used at a department store at Arden Fair Mall about an hour and a half later, Ramos said. Detectives worked with mall security to view store surveillance tape of the stolen credit card being used as well as follow the pair who allegedly used the card through the mall to the parking lot where they got into a silver SUV that matched the description of the one used in the earlier robbery.

Detectives obtained the name of the registered owner of the SUV and learned she, Akayla Martin, 18, was the driver in the robbery stick-up, Ramos said. They also identified her boyfriend, Antoine Estes-Dyson, as the suspected shooter, said Ramos.

Estes-Dyson was also booked on a parole violation charge.
