LATHROP, CA - A 4-year-old girl got help after a suspect attempted to rape her mother Monday night.
The woman heard a loud banging noise outside of her residence on the 300 block of Osage Place around 8:51 p.m., San Joaquin Sheriff's Office said.
The victim went outside to check out the noise and where it came from when she was attacked by the suspect. The sheriff's office said the suspect pushed the victim inside, put a knife to her neck and told her not to fight him or he would hurt her daughter.
The suspect attempted to pull the woman's pants down, but did not sexually assault her, the sheriff's office said. The suspect fled the home through the front door, closing the door behind him.
The woman's 4-year-old girl, Aubrey, came out of hiding from the bedroom and used her mother's cell phone to call her grandfather, who then called the sheriff's office.
"She called my father because I have a phone that shows his picture. She looked up his picture," said the woman. "She put it on speaker phone and I could hear. She was speaking to my stepmom. She was telling her 'Someone is in the house. Mommy is tied up. Come quick.'"
"She has definitely made a difference. She's my little hero," said the woman.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his mid-30s, about 6'1", weighing 250 pounds. The suspect was last seen wearing a black beanie, a navy blue sweater and blue jeans with holes in the knees.
Anyone with information is urged to call the sheriff's office at (209) 468-4400.
