SACRAMENTO, CA - They call themselves the "Goon Squad", and at the start of every Kings game you will find them jumping and dancing by the bench before tip-off.
"The Goon Squad are the guys who come off the bench," said Kings point guard Pooh Jeter. "And we've got to be ready to fight and scrap."
In the month of January, where the team has won six games, the Kings reserves have provided a much a needed spark. Sacramento (12-34) finished the month with back to back victories against the Lakers and Hornets, and on Tuesday were competitive with the Boston Celtics.
"When we get into the game we've got to be ready," said forward Carl Landry. "We have to be prepared to keep the lead if we are up, or we are down help the team out."
Kings enter Samuel Dalembert started the dancing ritual before games, and it was Landry who came up with "Goon Squad name"
"Goon Squad, I like that," laughed Jeter. "That means business, like we are ready, we are mean. It is the approach we have to take when we sub in, we have to be that goon."
