CLOVIS, CA - A man the local Hmong community considered a hero for his role in fighting against communists in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam war has died.
Gen. Vang Pao, 81, died at Clovis Community Medical Center in Clovis Thursday.
Vang had been hospitalized with pneumonia, according to several media reports.
The general was named in a 2007 federal lawsuit as a co-conspirator in an alleged plot to overthrow the Laotian communist government. His arrest and case sparked large peaceful demonstrations in Sacramento.
Prosecutors dismissed the case against Vang two years later.
