For a brief moment the skies opened up and offered some relief from the dry conditions, but it was too little too late.
Rain covered parts of the Sacramento area in spurts late Saturday morning and early afternoon. No one expected the day's rainfall to be the cure for region's longstanding dry conditions.
Driving north of Sacramento, people remained hopeful
"It was actually coming down pretty hard. We were actually hoping that it was going to kind of continue up this way. You know we need that rain and stuff," Daryl Morales said after driving through Rocklin and into Lincoln, where rain fell hard for a few minutes.
It was enough to make a few puddles, but the dry conditions have many keeping their fingers crossed for more.
Unfortunately, the day's rain may be as good as it's going to get for awhile. Calls for voluntary 20 percent reductions in water use in parts of the Sacramento area remain in effect, and may become mandatory in the weeks ahead.
