Great Hang Up: Singer Demi Lovato pledges not to text and drive in a new pubic service campaign. The goal is to reach peers with a message of safe driving.

When asked on Facebook for instances of unsafe driving, local motorists had plenty of examples to share. One viewer questioned officers using a phone while driving. The California Office of Traffic Safety says law enforcement and emergency personnel have an exception to texting while driving if on duty, for reasons including not using scanner traffic for sensitive information.

Another viewer said his coworker wrecked a car while texting.

Handheld texting and handheld phone use is illegal in California and tickets start at $159.

Voice activated use is legal for drivers over 18.

You can see the whole public service announcement from the AT&T It Can Wait campaign on our Great Hang Up facebook page.
