Christmas presents.

STOCKTON, CA - A south Stockton church that's barely a year old treated 76 families to a holiday gathering on a rainy Saturday morning.

HOPE ministries offered food, gifts, games and photos with Santa to those families and their 22 children.

Pastor Valerie Frazier is recently retired from the Department of Corrections, where it was clear to her families in south Stockton need attention like this.

"We have a generation of people that don't trust - they're broken," Frazier said. "What we can do with this and pour out to them, with nothing attached except and love and a smile and to see their smiling faces, it an awesome experience."

She joked the weather wasn't as cooperative as she would have liked.

"I prayed God would stop the rain, but at least he slowed the storm," Frazier said.

Next year's holiday gathering is likely to take place at a larger location, to accommodate the many needy families that will be adopted by the community for the party.
