ROSEVILLE, CA - A Vacaville man already in jail on unrelated charges is facing robbery and other charges in connection with a July 29 crime in which a local man had his cellphone stolen during a Craigslist ad transaction.
Roseville police Officer Dee Gunther said the victim had arranged to meet a potential buyer for his phone at a gas station on the corner of Sunrise Avenue and Cirby Way that Sunday night. Reportedly, the "buyer", suspect Dominique Albert Holmes, grabbed the man's iPhone and ran. The seller tackled him and the two fought until a person with the suspect showed a handgun. At that point, the suspect and his friend took the phone and drove off.
Gunther said even though robbery detectives did not have a name for the "buyer" nor a license plate number for his car, they eventually identified Holmes using descriptions of the robbers, forensic evidence collected at the scene and numerous interviews.
Holmes was arrested Dec. 5 and booked into Placer County Jail with bail set at $50,000.
Detectives were still working to put a name to the individual who displayed the gun.
