WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A man was arrested after allegedly trying to steal a Christmas tree from a church and shooting at a security guard early Saturday morning.

Brian Brinsfield, 20, of West Sacramento, was arrested Saturday afternoon, nearly 14 hours after attempting to rob the Brtye Russian Baptist Church, West Sacramento police Lt. Nathan Steele said.

Brinsfield is accused of breaking into the church at 1000 Sacramento Ave. around 12:18 a.m. and trying to steal a Christmas tree from the lot. Steele said a security guard confronted Brinsfield, but he threatened the guard, fired several shot at the guard and then fled the scene.

When police officers arrived at the scene, they created a perimeter to search for the suspect; however, after some time, officers called off the search when they didn't find Brinsfield.

Around 2 p.m., officers located Brinsfield near Sacramento Avenue and Todhunter Avenue and arrest him, Steele said.

Brinsfield will be booked into Yolo County Jail for felony charges.
