AUBURN, CA - The Auburn Police Department teamed with the California Board of Equalization to serve a search warrant on the Tire Depot on Thursday morning.

According to Auburn police Det. Jay Johnson, the warrant was established after a yearlong investigation taken place after numerous customer complaints.

Johnson said the Tire Depot, which is located at 203 Palm Ave., was offering lower prices to customers who paid with cash. Even more so, customers were complaining about poor service as well reports of warranties on purchased tires not being honored.

Over the last year, several undercover purchases were made documenting the alleged cash sales. As well, Johnson said several boxes of sales documents and business records were seized from the Tire Depot during the search.

Under federal and state law, buying anything, including tires, with cash is legal; however, the business must pay all taxes related to the sales.

The Auburn Police Department is asking for the customers of the Tire Depot to who were offered discounts for cash sales to contact the Auburn Police at (530) 823-4068.
